Ente

★ 20k

End-to-end encrypted photo storage with open-source clients for every platform, so nobody but you can see your library.

Ente does the job of iCloud Photos, self-hosted. It is AGPL-licensed, so a hosted fork has to publish its changes, and setting it up is an afternoon, not a weekend. iCloud Photos bills $10 for it. 20k stars on GitHub.
