Gotenberg

★ 9k

Docker-powered API that converts HTML, Markdown, and Office files into pixel-perfect PDFs.

Gotenberg does the job of DocRaptor, self-hosted. It is MIT-licensed, so you can do essentially what you like with it, and it installs in about one command. DocRaptor bills $15 for it. 9k stars on GitHub.

Is it actually a replacement?

We have not written a verdict on DocRaptor yet, so this page says what Gotenberg is rather than judging what you would give up. When that product gets a page, this one will link to it.

How Gotenberg runs

Where it runs

Gotenberg runs on your server.

Installing it

Run the official Docker image and call its HTTP conversion endpoints.

Where your data lives

Gotenberg is deliberately stateless: request files are written to an isolated temporary working directory, Chromium or LibreOffice produces the result, the PDF/image bytes are returned or uploaded to a configured webhook destination, and there is no built-in project database or template library.

What setup takes

Docker starts it quickly, but the user must build and host every HTML/CSS template, expose and secure the API, budget Chromium memory, and decide where generated files are stored.

The catch compared with Orshot

Gotenberg renders HTML to PDFs and screenshots but supplies no visual template editor, reusable data schema, video generation, hosted asset library, workflow integrations, or agent-friendly template product.
