Mealie

★ 9k

Recipe manager and meal planner with one-click URL import and shopping lists.

Mealie does the job of Paprika, Whisk and Samsung Food, self-hosted. It is AGPL-licensed, so a hosted fork has to publish its changes, and it installs in about one command. Paprika bills $5 for it. 9k stars on GitHub.

Is it actually a replacement?

We have not written a verdict on Paprika or Whisk or Samsung Food yet, so this page says what Mealie is rather than judging what you would give up. When that product gets a page, this one will link to it.

How Mealie runs

Where it runs

Mealie runs on your server.

Installing it

Docker Compose.

Where your data lives

Recipes, users, groups, meal plans, and shopping-list records live in SQLite by default or PostgreSQL when configured; recipe images and application assets live in the mounted data directory, and Mealie's backup/export archives keep portable copies of the database and media.

What setup takes

A non-expert needs Docker, persistent volumes, an update/backup routine, and usually a domain plus HTTPS; importing recipe sites also produces parsing failures that must be cleaned up manually.

The catch compared with AnyList Complete

Mealie shares recipes and shopping lists, but its web-first recipe-server workflow is slower for aisle-side list entry, notifications, Siri/Alexa capture, and offline mobile use than AnyList.
